Rising oil production allowed the U.S. to cut the amount of oil it imports to 7.6 million barrels a day in July, down from 8.1 million barrels a year earlier. Less dependence on foreign oil may signal a renaissance in the energy industry as power shifts from the Middle East back to the U.S.
