JOBS & ECONOMY

Oil production has been a vital part of California’s economy for more than 100 years. It has helped grow California into the third largest oil producing state in the country and the seventh largest economy in the world.

California energy production is powering our state, providing hundreds of thousands of jobs for Californians, and billions of dollars in tax revenues each year that fund vital services like schools and public safety. Did you know that California oil production has local and global benefits?

How does local production affect the rest of the globe?

  • 1 in 50 California jobs are directly related to oil and gas. Continued domestic energy production is critical to California’s economy and to well-paying jobs.

  • Today, the industry is responsible for 455,940 jobs and more than $21.2 billion in annual state and local tax revenues – money that funds vital services like schools and public safety.

  • According to economic professors at California State University Fresno, future development of our oil and gas reserves through enhanced recovery methods, like hydraulic fracturing, could create up to 195,000 new high paying jobs. These methods could also generate as much as $22 billion in personal income gains and up to $6.7 billion in additional revenue for state and local governments.

How does local production affect our state’s economy?

  • California’s economy is the largest in the U.S. and the seventh largest in the world.

  • California’s GDP is made up of several industries (real estate, agricultural, manufacturing, transportation, etc.), most of which rely heavily upon California-produced oil to operate and keep the world moving.

  • The benefits associated with increasing California oil production (gas price stability, local tax revenue, jobs, etc.) directly benefit the industries that provide agricultural goods and American manufactured products to the rest of the world. We must support increased domestic oil production.
