Increased California oil production reduces our reliance on imported foreign oil, making us less vulnerable to price spikes and shortages.

COST STABILITY

  • California-produced oil means we avoid ever-fluctuating prices from foreign countries, giving us more control over our energy prices and reducing volatile cost spikes.

Reducing cost spikes

Understanding how imported oil affects cost stability

Never has there been a better time for California to increase our energy independence. Our state has the demand – residents and businesses are in need of more California-produced oil -- and we have the ability to increase production to meet that demand.

  • Cost stability means freedom and flexibility for California drivers, allowing them more quality time with their families for vacations and road trips and ensuring they are able to commute to work and school.

  • California-produced oil means that we avoid pricey imports, providing cost stability for Californians for gas as well as the goods and services we rely on everyday.

  • Price stability allows businesses to forecast and budget their variable operating expenses. Low cost gas for employers means more California jobs for employees.

Providing cost stability

  • Californians consume all of the oil and gas generated in California, but demand forces us to import 63% of California’s needed oil each year from other states and foreign countries. This makes us dependent on countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Russia, and Kuwait, which means they control the supply and prices, leaving Californians vulnerable to shortages and price spikes.

  • Additionally, when California has to import oil it must be imported by train or tanker, further increasing costs. In-state energy production allows us to access the state’s own supply of untapped oil, enabling California to become more energy independent and better control the cost of our oil.
